Café is the customizable line of GE Appliances, and its dishwashers are chosen for the finish and the handle as much as for the wash: six handle finishes are sold as separate kits. The current CustomFit models add a reconfigurable top rack and basket with their own Ultra Wash jets, a leak pan with a sensor and dual-fan drying, so a Café visit has more wash circuits to check than a basic dishwasher.

What is particular
to Café.

Café's current owner's manual covers the CDT828, CDT858, CDT888 and CDP888 series, and the CDT888 CustomFit models are the ones with the adjustable top rack, lid caddy and Ultra Wash basket. Knowing which series you have tells the technician which racks and wash zones to expect.

The handle is a kit of its own

Café offers six handle finishes, and each one is a separate handle kit that can be ordered on its own. A bent, loose or scratched handle is a parts order matched to the finish, not a reason to replace the door or the dishwasher.

More jets to keep clear

CustomFit models wash with a 90-plus jet system, bottle jets, a middle and a lower arm, and Ultra Wash jets under the basket and the top rack. When one zone comes out dirty and the rest clean, that pattern points to one circuit, which makes the search much shorter.

A leak pan with its own sensor

The CustomFit spec lists a leak pan with a sensor, and when a leak is detected the dishwasher drains, stops the cycle and shows LEAK DETECTED. Restarting it again and again only repeats the drain, so the water that tripped the sensor has to be found.

Drying depends on rinse aid

Café dishwashers dry with dual convection and two fans, and an electronic sensor reports when rinse aid runs low. Wet plastics after a cycle are checked against that indicator and the Dry setting first, because Normal dry can add up to 85 minutes and is not available on the Express cycle.

Parts

Handle kits are ordered by finish name, so note which of the six finishes is on the door before booking. Wash and drain parts are ordered by the full model number from the label on the tub wall just inside the door.

Repair or replace

A Café is usually bought to match the handles and finish on the rest of a Café kitchen, so replacing it often means breaking that match. Pump, sensor, control and handle repairs are normally the better answer.

Can the handle on my Café dishwasher be replaced on its own?
Yes. Café sells its dishwasher handles as separate kits in six finishes, so a damaged handle is replaced without touching the door. Note the finish, such as brushed stainless or brushed bronze, and the model number before you book a visit.
My Café dishwasher shows LEAK DETECTED. What should I do?
When the Café detects a leak, it drains and stops the cycle on purpose. Turn it off and look for water at the door and under the sink, but don't keep restarting it. The leak pan sensor will trip again until the source is found and fixed.
Why are plastics still wet after a cycle on my Café?
Check the rinse aid first. Café models have an electronic sensor for low rinse aid, and without it plastics shed water poorly. Then check that Dry is set to Normal or Ultra, which Express does not offer. If both are right and items stay wet, a fan or heater check is the next step.
