What is particular
to Kenmore.

Kenmore and Kenmore Elite dishwashers span several series, including Ultra Wash models with a removable triple filter and HE models, some of them with a built-in water softener. The series changes both the filter routine and the code chart, so the model label matters more than the badge.

The prefix decides the chart

Sears keeps one code chart for 665-prefix Kenmore dishwashers and another for Kenmore HE models, and the same light can mean different things on different series. Reading the full model number off the label comes before reading any code.

Codes told in blinks

On 665 models, the Clean light blinking seven times means the control saw no rise in water temperature while the heating element was on, and a console light blinking rapidly means a stuck button. Sears notes the codes stop showing once the cause is resolved, so write the pattern down when you see it.

Function, then problem

Kenmore HE models without a display flash the Clean light in two groups: a function number, a two-second pause, then a problem number. Six flashes then one means the control saw no water entering the tub, and the console is locked out while a code is flashing, which can look like a dead control.

Sanitize needs hot incoming water

When the Sanitized light blinks at the end of a 665 cycle, the water did not reach 150 degrees for the required time. Sears points first at the incoming water, since below 120 degrees the heater may not get there, and only then at the heating element.

Parts

Parts are looked up by the full model number rather than by the Kenmore name, because each series has its own parts list. The tech sheet with wiring and test values is kept behind the bottom front toe panel, which saves time on a diagnostic visit.

Repair or replace

Many Kenmore dishwashers still in service are older units, so weigh the unit's age before a control or motor repair. Heater, float, valve and filter problems on a unit in good condition are usually worth fixing.

Who made my Kenmore dishwasher?
The Kenmore manuals carry the Sears name, and we do not guess the maker from the badge. The model and serial number label on the dishwasher gives the full model number, and that number decides which code chart and parts list apply.
The Clean light on my Kenmore blinks seven times. What does that mean?
On 665-series models it is a heater circuit code: the control did not see the water temperature rise while the heating element was on. The heating element, its wiring and the control board are the parts in that circuit, so book a visit to have it tested.
My Kenmore's buttons do nothing. Is the control dead?
Not necessarily. On 665 models a lit control-lock light means the lock is on; Sears says to press Heated Dry for five seconds to release it. On HE models without a display, the console is disabled while the Clean light is flashing a code, so count the flashes before anything else.
How often should I clean the Ultra Wash filter?
The Kenmore Ultra Wash manual sets the interval by how many loads you run each week and whether you scrape or rinse dishes first, so a busy household that loads dishes unscraped cleans it far more often than a light user. Clean it sooner if dishes feel gritty or soil is visible on the upper filter assembly.
