What is particular
to KitchenAid.

KitchenAid splits the range into front-control and integrated top-control models, in standard, flush-to-cabinet and panel-ready installs. Flush and panel-ready units are fitted tightly to the cabinetry, and KitchenAid says the dishwasher must be level and square in its opening for the door to seal.

A door that opens by itself

Models with automatic open-door drying pop the door at the end of the cycle to let hot air out. If the door then will not close, KitchenAid's own step is to push it shut and switch the power off for a minute so the opening system resets; on some models the feature can be turned off in the settings menu.

A fan that runs after the cycle

ProDry combines a heating element with a fan, and KitchenAid notes the fan may keep running for up to eight hours or until the door is opened. A hum from a finished dishwasher is expected on these models; a fan that never starts, or dishes that stay wet with ProDry selected, is not.

Self-cleaning filtration on some models

Some current KitchenAid models capture food particles continuously and clean the filter as the dishwasher drains, so there is no filter to rinse. Others use a maintenance-free system with a foreign object cup below the lower rack, and older styles have an upper filter that twists out. Knowing which one you have changes where a cleaning complaint starts.

Wash jets in the third rack

The 360° Max Jets third rack carries its own wash jets, part of more than 50 targeted jets across four wash arms. When only the top-level mugs and bowls come out dirty, the search narrows to that rack's water feed and jets rather than the whole wash system.

Parts

Pump, valve and drain parts come from the shared Whirlpool family supply and are generally easy to find. Third-rack wash parts, rack assemblies and panel-ready door trim are model specific and are the pieces more likely to need ordering.

Repair or replace

A KitchenAid installed flush or behind a custom panel is costly to swap out, which tilts most decisions toward repair. Door and drying complaints are often settings or installation issues rather than parts, so they are worth diagnosing before anything is replaced.

My KitchenAid dishwasher keeps humming after the cycle ends. Is that a problem?
Usually not. On models with ProDry, the fan moves air to dry the dishes and remove heat, and KitchenAid says it may run for up to eight hours or until you open the door. If the fan never runs and the dishes stay wet, book a visit.
The door opened by itself at the end of the cycle and now it will not close. What do I do?
Push the door closed (you may hear a noise), then turn the power off for one minute and back on so the door-opening system resets. If it still will not close, check that nothing is caught between the door seal and the tub and that the dishwasher is level and square in the cabinet.
Can I turn off the automatic door opening on my KitchenAid?
On models with the settings sub-menu, yes. Hold Hi Temp for five seconds, press Start/Resume within two seconds, move to the Door category and change the setting to o0, then press Start/Resume to confirm. Button names vary by model, so the owner's manual is the reference if yours differs.
Do I need to clean the filter on my KitchenAid?
It depends on the model. Some current models have self-cleaning filtration with no filter to rinse, some have a maintenance-free system with a foreign object cup to empty below the lower rack, and some have an upper filter assembly that twists out a quarter turn for rinsing. The owner's manual for your model number tells you which.
