Dishwashers dry in one of two ways. Some use a heating element to warm the air; many newer ones rely on a very hot final rinse and condensation on the cool stainless tub, sometimes helped by a fan or a door that opens at the end. Plastic never dries well in either system. A machine that used to dry and has stopped is a different story, and rinse aid is the first thing to check.

My new dishwasher dries worse than my old one. Is it broken?
Probably not. Many newer machines have dropped the exposed heating element for condensation drying to save energy, and they depend on rinse aid and a hot final rinse. Adding rinse aid and choosing a heated dry option usually closes most of the gap.
Can I just open the door right after the cycle?
Yes, and it helps. Cracking the door lets steam escape instead of settling back on the dishes. Pull it out a few inches rather than all the way, so steam does not hit the underside of the countertop.
Why are the plastic containers always wet?
Plastic does not store enough heat to drive off the water on its surface. Place plastics on the top rack, tilt them so water runs off, and expect to wipe some of them.
Is it the heating element if the wash is also cool?
Likely. If the dishes are cool at the end and the wash results have slipped too, heat is missing from the whole cycle, not only the dry phase. That points to the element, its thermostat or the sensor.
