Stop the water and power first

Standing water under a dishwasher reaches cabinets, subfloor and the wiring junction box behind the kick plate. Turn off power at the breaker, close the hot-water supply valve under the sink, and keep the machine off until the source is found. Water that keeps coming after the valve is closed is a plumbing issue, not the dishwasher.

A dishwasher only holds a gallon or two in its sump at a time, so a leak that soaks the floor is usually not one big failure but water escaping at a specific joint. The door edge, the lower corners, the supply connection and the drain connection under the tub each leak in a recognizable way. Where the puddle forms, and at which point in the cycle, tells a technician most of what they need before the kick plate comes off.

It only leaks a little at the front. Can I keep running it?
Not for long. A small drip at the door usually means water is also reaching places you cannot see, such as the underside of the cabinet floor or the insulation around the tub. Put a towel down, run it only when you are home, and book a visit before the particleboard starts to swell.
Could the leak be coming from the sink instead?
Yes, and it is worth ruling out. The dishwasher drain often joins the sink drain or a garbage disposal under the same cabinet, and a leak at that joint drips down beside the dishwasher. Open the sink cabinet and look for wet pipes or a damp cabinet floor.
Why is there foam on the floor?
Foam means the wrong soap or too much of it. Liquid hand dish soap is the usual culprit. Scoop out what you can, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil to the tub to knock the suds down, and run a rinse cycle with no detergent.
Will a new door gasket fix it?
Only if the gasket is the source. Many leaks that look like door leaks come from a machine that sits out of level or from a seal at the bottom of the door that is separate from the main gasket. Checking level and watching where the first drop appears is worth doing before buying a seal.
