What is particular
to Smeg.

Current integrated models are the DW86xx and DW82xx family, with the DW8601X and DW8210X as under-counter stainless versions and the STU2FAB retro-style models in four colors; STU82xx, STU86xx and LSPU models are listed as retiring. Hinges differ between fixed, variable and sliding Flexifit, which matters for panel weight and door balance on integrated models.

The Planetarium spray arm

Many current Smeg models use the patented Planetarium arm, which turns on two axes at once at 65 rpm. The manual notes that the spray arms only start turning about five minutes into the cycle, so an arm that is still at the start is not a failed wash motor.

Total Aquastop at the hose and under the tub

Current models list Total Aquastop, which shuts off the water supply when it detects a leak under the tub or in the inlet hose. On models that have it, E1 is the Aquastop code, and the manual sends E1 and E11 straight to the service technician rather than to a restart.

Error codes shown as lights

On models without a numeric display, Smeg shows an error code by lighting several indicators at once, E1 through E11. E7, a flow-meter code, only appears at the end of a cycle that has otherwise finished; for most of the others the manual says to stop, switch off and start again before booking.

A door catch that can trip

If the dishwasher will not start with the door shut, the manual points at the door lock catch: it can be raised with an adjusting screw, and if it has tripped the door must be closed firmly, without slamming, until it re-arms. That is an owner check before it becomes a latch repair.

Usually worth repairing on a current model, where the common calls are the filters, the Aquastop hose, the door catch or the drain. On a retiring model that needs a control board, weigh the repair against how long parts will remain available for it.

Smeg dishwashers.

I started my Smeg dishwasher and the spray arm is not moving. Is it broken?
Probably not. Smeg's manual says the spray arms start turning about five minutes after the dishwasher starts, and that this is normal. If the arm is still not turning well into the cycle, or dishes come out dirty, clean the filters and the arm nozzles first and book a visit if that does not help.
Several lights are on at once and the cycle has stopped. What does that mean?
That is how many Smeg models show an error code, E1 through E11. For most codes the manual says to stop the program, switch the dishwasher off, switch it back on and start again. E1 (the Aquastop) and E11 (the wash pump) need a technician.
The door is closed but the dishwasher will not start.
Check the door lock catch. If it has tripped, Smeg's instruction is to close the door firmly, without slamming, until it re-arms, then open and close it again. If the catch sits too low, it can be raised with the plastic adjusting screw next to it.
Why is there a white film inside the tub and on my glasses?
Smeg's troubleshooting table points at the water softener: a setting that is too low or too high, or a salt container cap that is not tightened so salty water mixes with the wash. Check those, and the detergent, before booking a visit.
