What the dishwasher door latch and hinge repair

A dishwasher will not start or continue a cycle unless the door switch inside the latch tells the control the door is shut. A worn strike, a cracked latch or a failed switch leaves the machine dead with the door apparently closed. The hinge side is a separate problem: springs and cables in the base counterbalance the door, and when one breaks the door drops open or will not stay put. On panel-ready units the weight of the custom panel changes which springs are correct, so the tension has to be matched to the panel.
